The Fortinet Certified Trainer (FCT) assessment is a trainer evaluation process in which each candidate has to prove their training delivery skills. The FCT assessment is a two-day assessment that evaluates the FCT candidate’s ability to maintain Fortinet’s quality standards in technical knowledge, skills and instructional abilities.

Who can apply?

The FCT assessment candidate should be a Fortinet employee or a candidate sponsored by an ATC who has submitted proof of reference, along with an online application form. An FCT candidate who wants to apply for an FCT assessment must meet the following knowledge and experience eligibility requirements:

  • Extensive technical knowledge and skills in network security and cybersecurity
  • Five years of relevant experience in network security and cybersecurity
  • Certification in the required NSE training courses
  • Five years of experience in training delivery in IT security
  • Demonstrable training facilitation and delivery skills

Course Description

In this course, you will explore practical use of 3rd party (open source) and Fortinet solutions for malware analysis. Comprised of theory lessons and hands-on labs, you will learn about the fundamental concepts of malware analysis, perform basic analysis using open-source tools, and leverage Fortinet solutions for advanced and automated malware analysis. Finally, you will work with live malware samples to analyze their characteristics and behavior using Fortinet solutions and 3rd party tools.

Who Should Attend

Anyone who is responsible for malware analysis as part of incident response, threat hunting, or any other cybersecurity process that may deal with malware activity.

Professionals that deal with designing or implementing cybersecurity architectures and solutions that need to address malware related threats may also leverage this training to improve their understanding on malware behavior and analysis techniques.

Prerequisites

You must have an understanding of the topics covered in the following courses, or have equivalent experience:

  • FCP - FortiGate Security
  • FCP - FortiGate Infrastructure
  • FCP - FortiEDR
  • FCP - FortiSandbox
  • FCP - FortiClient EMS

It is also recommended that you have an understanding of the following topics, or have equivalent experience:

  • Basic end-user experience with command line interfaces (Linux shell and Windows PowerShell)
  • Basic hands-on experience with 3rd party tools:
    • Linux shell (CLI)
    • Kali Linux
    • Metasploit
    • Wireshark

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand fundamental concepts about malware and its different types, and malware analysis (both static and dynamic)
  • Understand guidelines to building your own malware analysis lab
  • Perform malware static analysis using various open-source and 3rd party tools
  • Perform malware dynamic analysis using various open-source and 3rd party tools
  • Understand specific aspects of macOS malware analysis
  • Perform malware analysis and hunting using FortiSandbox and FortiEDR
System Requirements

If you take the online format of this class, you must use a computer that has the following:

  • A high-speed Internet connection
  • An up-to-date web browser
  • A PDF viewer
  • Speakers or headphones
  • One of the following:
    • HTML 5 support or
    • An up-to-date Java Runtime Environment (JRE) with Java plugin enabled on your web browser

You should use a wired Ethernet connection, not a WiFi connection. Firewalls, including Windows Firewall or FortiClient, must allow connections to the online labs.
