The Fortinet Certified Trainer (FCT) assessment is a trainer evaluation process in which each candidate has to prove their training delivery skills. The FCT assessment is a two-day assessment that evaluates the FCT candidate’s ability to maintain Fortinet’s quality standards in technical knowledge, skills and instructional abilities.

Who can apply?

The FCT assessment candidate should be a Fortinet employee or a candidate sponsored by an ATC who has submitted proof of reference, along with an online application form. An FCT candidate who wants to apply for an FCT assessment must meet the following knowledge and experience eligibility requirements:

  • Extensive technical knowledge and skills in network security and cybersecurity
  • Five years of relevant experience in network security and cybersecurity
  • Certification in the required NSE training courses
  • Five years of experience in training delivery in IT security
  • Demonstrable training facilitation and delivery skills

If you meet all of these requirements you can apply for the FCT assessment!

Course Description

FortiCarrier is a specialized version of FortiOS designed for mobile network operators. It provides enhanced security features for carrier networks, such as GTP and SCTP protection, ensuring secure traffic flow in mobile core and radio access networks. Licensing FortiCarrier requires purchasing a dedicated license, applicable to specific FortiGate models or VMs.

This workshop consists of modules on carrier grade NAT (CGNAT) and mobile security. It builds on knowledge obtained in FortiGate Administrator, Enterprise Firewall, and Network Security Support Engineers courses. In this workshop, students will learn the fundamentals of FortiCarrier.

Who Should Attend

Anyone who is responsible for the day-to-day management of FortiCarrier firewall policies and NAT rules working directly on the firewall and using the FortiManager platform. This course is also of value to solution architects who want to better understand the products used in the carrier firewall solution.

Prerequisites
  • Knowledge of firewall concepts in an IPv4 and IPv6 network
  • Basic understanding of network management systems
  • FCP - FortiGate Administrator
  • FCSS - Enterprise Firewall
  • FCSS - Network Security Support Engineer

Basic understanding of network management systems

Objectives

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the architecture and security needs of 3G, 4G, and 5G mobile networks
  • Configure and manage FortiCarrier to secure mobile core networks, including GTP and SCTP firewalls
  • Implement advanced GTP profiles to filter traffic based on APN, IMSI, and RAT type
  • Protect roaming and external networks using filtering techniques
  • Enable and apply FortiCarrier licenses to FortiGate devices for mobile-specific security features
  • Troubleshoot GTP and SCTP traffic using diagnostic commands and session helpers
  • Review of traditional FortiOS NAT mechanisms, including overload and one-to-one mapping
  • Introduction to Carrier Grade NAT (CG-NAT) for IPv4 address conservation and its logging challenges
  • Understanding NAT444, its limitations, and associated technologies like Application Layer Gateways (ALG) and UPnP
  • Exploration of CGN resource allocation techniques, such as Port Block Allocation (PBA) and Single Port Allocation (SPA)
  • Transition to IPv6 using NAT64/DNS64 and DS-Lite for service providers to handle IPv4 and IPv6 traffic seamlessly
  • Learn about Hyperscale CG-NAT on NP7, enabling high-performance session offloading and efficient resource allocation, allowing massive NAT session handling with minimal CPU load and advanced features like port block allocation and hardware logging
System Requirements

If you take an online format of this class, you must use a computer that has the following:

  • A high-speed Internet connection
  • An up-to-date web browser
  • A PDF viewer
  • Speakers or headphones
  • One of the following:
    • HTML5 support
    • An Up-to-date Java runtime environment (JRE) with Java plugin enabled in your web browser

You should use a wired Ethernet connection, not a Wi-Fi connection. Firewalls, including Windows Firewall or FortiClient, must allow connections to the online labs.
