The Fortinet Certified Trainer (FCT) assessment is a trainer evaluation process in which each candidate has to prove their training delivery skills. The FCT assessment is a two-day assessment that evaluates the FCT candidate’s ability to maintain Fortinet’s quality standards in technical knowledge, skills and instructional abilities.

Who can apply?

The FCT assessment candidate should be a Fortinet employee or a candidate sponsored by an ATC who has submitted proof of reference, along with an online application form. An FCT candidate who wants to apply for an FCT assessment must meet the following knowledge and experience eligibility requirements:

  • Extensive technical knowledge and skills in network security and cybersecurity
  • Five years of relevant experience in network security and cybersecurity
  • Certification in the required NSE training courses
  • Five years of experience in training delivery in IT security
  • Demonstrable training facilitation and delivery skills

Course Description

In this course, you will learn about the key features of session-aware load balance cluster (SLBC) and the FortiGate 6000 appliance-based firewall series. Topics include product architecture, as well as system configuration, troubleshooting, and monitoring.

Who Should Attend

Networking and security professionals involved in the management, configuration, administration, and monitoring of FortiGate 6000 series devices should attend this course.

This course is focused on describing the unique features in a FortiGate 6000 appliance. For this reason, this course assumes knowledge of FortiGate, FortiManager, and FortiAnalyzer fundamentals. You should have a thorough understanding of all the topics covered in the FortiGate Security and FortiGate Infrastructure courses, before attending the this course.

  • Knowledge of firewall concepts in an IPv4 network
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of FortiGate, as presented in the FortiGate Security and FortiGate Infrastructure courses

  • Describe the SLBC architecture and key components
  • Understand the FortiGate 6000 appliance-based solution and architecture, and identify key differences with other SLBC products
  • Identify and configure the management options available, including out-of-band and in-band methods
  • Explore the SLBC management interface
  • Understand packet flow, session creation, and the different load balancing methods
  • Understand and configure supported high availability (HA) modes
  • Identify key differences in NAT and transparent mode operation when compared to regular FortiGate devices
  • Deploy SSL VPN and IPsec VPN
  • Identify key differences in firewall authentication when compared to regular FortiGate devices
  • Integrate the chassis with FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer
  • Troubleshoot issues related to the FortiGate 6000 series applicance

  • Speakers/headphones
  • One of the following
    • HTML 5 support or
    • An up-to-date Java Runtime Environment (JRE) with Java plugin enabled in your web browser

You should use a wired Ethernet connection, not a WiFi connection. Firewalls, including Windows Firewall or FortiClient, must allow connections to the online labs.
